While the state of Connecticut has not issued blanket vaccine mandates for all citizens, Governor Lamont has issued an executive order that requires that certain segments of the population have received at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine by September 27th.

The executive order which was issued on August 19th, 2021, requires that the following groups of people are vaccinated, with at least one shot before the deadline of September 27th:

  • All Connecticut state employees
  • Staff at all childcare facilities throughout the state
  • Staff and Faculty of all pre-K-12 schools
  • State hospital workers
  • Long-term care facility staff

Any person who is identified by the executive order that has not begun the process fo getting vaccinated by September 27th will be required to undergo weekly testing for COVID-19. This “exemption” will not apply to those who are working at a long-term care facility or are state hospital workers, these two categories of people will be required to be vaccinated.

The Governor is encouraging, but not mandating, that many other non-state entities like non-profits and for profit companies begin to rollout vaccine mandates to increase the vaccination rate in the state. Connecticut’s current vaccination rate is at 74% of all people having received one dose of the vaccine and 64% all residents who are eligible having received full vaccination status.
