While vaccines for COVID-19 are being administered throughout Connecticut and the rest of the U.S. more companies have vaccines in trials and are looking for Emergency Use Authorization from the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC.) Johnson & Johnson is one of those companies.

The vaccine, which is in Phase III trials globally has been shown to be 66% effective, but importantly is also 85% effective against serious disease and hospitalization.

One of the things that sets this vaccine apart from the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines which have been proven to be 95% effective against the disease is that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is only one shot and does not have as many challenging handling instructions, for instance it does not need to be stored at freezing cold temperatures.

According to the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine shows promising results and could ease the burden on the U.S. healthcare system which is in dire need of relief.

The company is expected to apply for Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration within the next few weeks and if approved could start being shipped shortly there after.
