Five Self Care Items You Should Check Off Everyday

As you might imagine we believe strongly in taking good care of yourself, both physically and mentally. One of the things you can do to take care of yourself is get into a regular self care routine that you do each and every day. It can be hard to remember to stay focused on your self care when life gets busy and takes you down paths each day that you weren’t expecting, but if you can manage to stay focused enough to check a few of these self care items off your list you will be better both physically and mentally for it.

1.) Stay hydrated. There is nothing more powerful to keep you healthy then drinking plenty of water. This becomes especially true when you are in the midst of a hot summer. If you are not drinking enough water and you are getting dehydrated it can lead to headaches and worse heat stroke.

2.) Make it a point to move. Moving doesn’t have to be prolonged exercise it can be as simple as taking your dog for a walk or riding your bike to the store instead of driving. Taking time out of your busy day to make sure you are getting some movement in is one way to keep yourself physically healthy.

3.) Make time to laugh. Life can be very serious and it should be taken that way, but there needs to be room to laugh each and every day. If you aren’t feeling funny, find a clip on YouTube and watch it for a little while to get you laughing. A good belly laugh is all you need to do to get yourself feeling better each day.

4.) Express gratitude. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to express gratitude for the things and people you have in your life. This can be an internal expression or an external expression, but it should be something you do every day. A good way to do this is to keep a gratitude journal by your bed at night and write in it before you fall asleep.

5.) Speaking of sleep…get more sleep. Most people do not get the recommended amount of sleep for their age. Adults should get between 6-8 hours of sleep a night. If you are not getting that much, you need to change your sleeping habits otherwise you will be hurting your mental, and in some cases, physical health.

Self care is critical to your overall well-being, but it doesn’t have to be an additional stress for you. Take small, daily steps, that can help you excel at adulting.
