Earlier this week the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) approved the new Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use. Along with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines this is the third vaccine that will be made available to Connecticut residents.

This is great news, but there are some things you need to know about the Johnson and Johnson vaccine that are different then the other two that have already started rolling out in the state.

  1. The vaccine only requires one dose.
  2. The vaccine does not need to be stored in sub-zero temperatures.
  3. The efficacy of the vaccine is 72% in the United States trials
  4. The vaccine was 100% effective in limiting serious illness or hospitalization from the virus

Health officials are encouraging all adults who are eligible for the vaccine to make an appointment and get vaccinated. If you are eligible you can schedule your vaccine appointment here.

If you’re not sure if you are eligible for the vaccine you can review the latest rollout plan from the governor here.

The new Johnson and Johnson vaccine will start arriving in Connecticut today and will be available for residents in the very near future.
