7 People To “Quit” For During The Great American SmokeoutNovember 15, 2018 2:01 am
Today is the Great American Smokeout. This annual event, put on by the American Cancer Society, coincides with Lung Cancer Awareness Month and is designed to encourage smokers to kick the habit. The success rate of this annual event is beyond impressive and it continues to this day, but still far too many Americans smoke. The numbers are staggering;
- 34 million smokers
- 16 million Americans living with a smoking-related illness
- 480,000 deaths caused each year
These numbers are scary, but the good news is how far we’ve come. Since 1965 the smoking rate has gone from 42% to 17% thanks in large part to educational programs like the Great American Smokeout.
So, if you’re one of the 34 million smokers who have yet to be able to kick the habit, we have seven people who are hoping and praying that you’ll quit today.
- 1. Your kids
- 2. Your spouse
- 3. Your friends
- 4. Your co-workers
- 5. Your doctor
- 6. Your grandkids (even if they aren’t born yet)
- 7. Your future self
There is one more piece of good news. The sooner you stop, the sooner your health will improve. As your health care partners here at the Orange Urgent Care Center, we are encouraging you to kick the habit today and join the millions of Americans who have found freedom from cigarettes.
