With the southeast coast of the United States bracing for landfall from a potentially catastrophic hurricane event in the form of Hurricane Florence, it’s important to note that Connecticut is also within reach of hurricane season. Our New Haven county urgent care center is here to help you gain the important knowledge to stay safe during a damaging storm that could mean the loss of power, food, water, etc.

According to the National Hurricane Center, you should put together a basic disaster preparedness kit that includes the following:

  • First-aid kit
  • A whistle to signal for help
  • A dust mask in case of debris
  • Water. Each person in your family should have a gallon of water per day for at least three days
  • Extra batteries
  • A flashlight
  • Manual can opener for food
  • Cell phone and chargers with battery backup
  • Pet food
  • Three day supply of food (at least)

The state of Connecticut has seen some devastating storms in recent years so it is not inconceivable that this type of storm could strike the shoreline and even push inland leaving residents injured and without power or access to water or food. If you plan now for a possible situation, if it ever arises you will be ready.
